Your Role as an SEN Teacher
SEN Teachers provide specialist education to students with additional learning needs, ensuring they receive tailored support. Responsibilities include:
- Planning and delivering individualised lessons suited to pupils’ learning abilities.
- Adapting teaching methods to cater to different communication and learning styles.
- Supporting students with behavioural, emotional, and social development.
- Collaborating with teaching assistants, therapists, and SENCOs.

Qualifications & Requirements
To work as an SEN Teacher, you’ll typically need:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – Gained via PGCE, BEd, or School Direct routes.
A degree in education or a subject area relevant to SEN.
GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent).
SEN-specific training – Makaton, PECS, Team Teach, Autism Awareness (desirable but not essential).
An Enhanced DBS Check (we can assist with this!).
